Flowers – the joy of life

By - Mohamed Rashad

Flowers have always been used to represent all nice feelings towards other people. Flowers have their own language which you use to say things in a beautiful way. You give flowers to someone to say “I love you” or “I really care for you”, you give flowers to a sick person to say “I hope you will get well soon” and you give flowers to say “I am really sorry”. The language of flowers has only nice words and it is well understood by all people no matter where they are.

Colors of flowers have also different meanings which can be used instead of words, Red for example gives the feeling of passionate love and desire, Blue flowers symbolize calmness and peace while Pink flowers convey appreciation. There are many different meanings related to each color and each type of flowers that will help you say what you feel.

Poets over the years have expressed their thoughts by creating poems about flowers. Margaret Deland who lived in the period 1857-1945 has written an entire volume of poems about flowers. Shakespeare has many quotations on flowers

The history of admiring flowers and giving them as gifts dates back to thousands of years. We can see the Pharaoh king Ramses II offering flowers to Goddess Isis in the famous scene on an Ancient Egyptian temple. There is a Chinese proverb that says “When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other”

Flowers are a main element in our occasions. We use flower arrangements in weddings to add happiness to the party and we use flowers in funerals to reduce sorrow and sadness. Every body appreciates flowers, your mother will value them, your wife or girlfriend will love them and your friends will appreciate them so much.

  • Today we use flowers in home décor to add joy to the house but we have to know how to take care of them to prolong their lives as much as we can. Some of the care tips for flowers are:
  • When you bring flowers home from a florist shop, don’t keep flowers out of water for long. Put flowers in clean water and put preservatives to keep them alive for more days.
  • Change water every day and keep room temperature normal.
  • Don’t expose flowers to smoke as they are living creatures and will certainly need fresh air to live
  • More flower care tips.

Scientists have observed that music positively affects the life of plants which flourish more when music is played at home for long periods of time.

Flowers are nice creatures that add joy to our lives and so they deserve to be treated in a nicely to enjoy them for as long as we can. “To hold love, you must treat it as a rare and tender flower, nurturing it with the utmost patience and care” from a poem by Lloyd Hill.

In the end, flowers will wither and die but at least they will have given their lives for the joy of others. Give them love and care as they fill your life with happiness.
